Frequently asked questions

What is Queen’s Gives?

Queen’s Gives is The Queen’s College’s first-ever Giving Day, an exciting 36-hour online giving event.

The Giving Day is an opportunity for the whole Queen’s community – Old Members, staff, students and friends – all over the world to come together and make a significant and lasting difference to the lives of Queen’s students. As part of Queen’s Gives we have several challenge and matching funds waiting to be unlocked, meaning gifts towards the Giving Day go much further than usual.

Double your impact! All gifts to the Giving Day up to the value of £80,000 will be matched £ for £!

During this 36 hour online fundraising challenge, we are aiming to raise as much support as possible for the Queen’s Fund, with a particular focus on three key areas: Access and Outreach, Student Support, and Academic Excellence.

Our first Giving Day will commence at 8am BST on Wednesday 29th May and will run for 36 hours until 8pm BST on Thursday 30th May 2024. Please join us, wherever you are in the world, and help make a difference at Queen’s.

What difference will my donation make?

You can read all about student support, access and outreach, and support for the tutorial system on their individual project pages on this site.

All gifts, of whatever size, add up and make a significant difference. Having a large number of donors encourages others to support us too. So, whatever you can give, we would love as many members to participate in Queen’s Gives as possible.

Why is Queen’s Gives different than any other day?

Gifts made to Queen’s Gives go further than usual, thanks to several challenge and matching funds provided by generous Queen’s members. The first £80,000 raised will be matched pound for pound, and early gifts made before the day will be counted and matched too. There will also be challenge funds that will be unlocked once we achieve various milestones. Take a look at the ‘Challenges’ tab to see if your gift is eligible to unlock funds this year.

Don’t forget to make your gifts early to take advantage of the matching gift.

NB: For tax purposes, donors who participate in the giving challenges will be credited for their individual contribution only.

How can I make my gift?

We want to make it easy for you to participate in Queen’s Gives, and gifts can be given a variety of ways.

Online: The easiest way is through the Queen’s Gives Giving Day website (the site you are currently on). You will be able to see your donation straight away on the Queen’s Gives Donor Wall and your name may encourage your friends to give too!

By post: Cheques should be made out to ‘The Queen’s College, Oxford’ and should be sent to: The Old Members’ Office, The Queen’s College, High Street, Oxford, OX1 4AW.

If you are in the US, please send your gift (checks should be made payable to ‘Americans for Oxford, Inc’) to: Americans for Oxford, Inc, c/o Mr. Neil Simpkins, Chairman, 500 Fifth Avenue, 32nd Floor, New York, NY 10110, USA

If you would like your postal gift to be counted on the Giving Day (and therefore eligible to unlock challenge funds), please ensure we receive it no later than Tuesday 28 June 2024.

Why is my payment not going through?

We are sorry you are experiencing a problem in making your gift. Some common errors include incorrect card details, an incorrect postcode/zip code or it not matching the address linked to your payment card. Please check that you have included your postcode in both the address field and the card details field of the gift form.

Please double-check the above before you contact us. If you continue to have problems making your gift please email us at development@queens.ox.ac.uk. You can also call us during office hours on +44(0)1865 279217.

If the issue cannot be resolved, you can donate online through the College website. Please let us know if you have donated this way so we can count it on our Queen’s Gives site.

How can I help spread the word about Queen’s Gives?

Your support will make a huge difference to the success of our Giving Day and to the difference we can make to students’ lives. We would be very grateful if you could help us spread the word about Queen’s Gives, by liking and sharing our posts on Facebook, X, Instagram and LinkedIn in the lead up to the day and on the day itself.

If you’d like to do a bit more to help spread the word, you could share the link to our Queen’s Gives site, or share your own post encouraging other to get involved and support our Giving Day. Make sure you use the hashtag #QueensGives and tag us in your posts so that we can see them!

Word of mouth is helpful too, so please tell your Queen’s friends about our Giving Day and encourage them to get involved.

Is my credit card payment secure?

Yes. All payments through the Queen’s College Giving Day website will be securely processed by a payment system called Stripe (https://stripe.com/gb/privacy).

You will receive an email receipt and your gift will be recognised on the Queen’s Gives Donor Wall on this website.

Is there a minimum or maximum donation I can make?

The minimum online gift amount is £1. There’s no maximum donation, and no limit on the impact you can make.

Can I claim Gift Aid on this donation?

Yes. So long as you are a UK taxpayer and have paid as much Income Tax and/or Capital Gains tax as the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all of your donations in that tax year, the college can reclaim the basic tax rate (25%) on your gift, with no extra cost to you. So, for example, your donation of £100 will actually be worth £125.

You can declare Gift Aid when you fill out the online donation form.

I live in the US. Can I donate to the Giving Day tax-efficiently?

Yes. Donors living in the USA can donate to Green Giving Day and qualify for a US tax deduction by donating through Americans for Oxford, Inc.(AFO), which is a charitable organisation recognised by the US Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(c)(3).

If you make your gift via the Queen’s Gives Giving Day platform and select ‘Donate in USD’ you will be directed to our US donation form.

Can I see my gift on this website?

All gifts will appear on the Queen’s Gives Giving Day Donor Wall on the day. You may choose whether to appear as Anonymous on the Donor Wall or to exclude the amount of your gift.

I have an additional question. How can I get in touch?

Please feel free to email any questions to Amanda in the Old Members’ Office at development@queens.ox.ac.uk or phone us on +44 (0)1865 279217.
